Fintech behemoth OPay Digital Services Limited has
categorically denied reports that it will cease operations on September 1,
2026. An X user who falsely reported that OPay was having indefinite downtime
and recommended users empty their accounts was threatened with legal action by
the corporation.
OPay described the viral article as malicious, misleading, and defamatory in a
statement released by Chief Legal Counsel Akinfolabi Rokosu. The business
stressed that these false statements damaged its brand and unnecessarily
alarmed people. The person was given a tight deadline by OPay to remove the
message, recant it publicly, and offer an official apology.
The social media user removed the message and formally
apologized to the business after receiving the warning. OPay has informed all
of its clients that its banking services are still fully functional and secure.
The platform pledges to use its proper channels to disseminate any actual
service upgrades going ahead.
