After a hiking mishap in Los Angeles, Jacob Manders, a 2019 graduate of Cherry Hill High School East, passed away.
On Sunday, November 17, 2024, Manders was reported missing after going trekking.
The body of a 23-year-old White/Caucasian man, identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner's office as Jacob Manders, was discovered during a search.
The mode of death was an accident following a fall from a hillside, and blunt head trauma was the cause of death.
At 9:17 a.m. on Monday, Coroner-Investigator Kimberley Arnold formally declared the dead.
In 2023, Cherry Hill native Jacob Manders received his degree from Duke University.
At the time of his passing, he was employed at Relativity Space in Long Beach, California, as an aeronautical and mechanical engineer.
According to his relatives, he enjoyed learning, sports, yoga, hiking, and camping.
He cherished spending time with his loved ones beyond anything else. Jake's siblings, Hannah and Joshua, his parents, Ronda and Steve, and his cherished dog, Colonel, survive him.
The funeral services will take place at PLATT MEMORIAL CHAPELS, Inc. in Cherry Hill, NJ, starting at 9:00 AM on Thursday, November 21st.
Following the burial, a Shiva minyan will be held at Ronda and Steve Manders' house at 7:00 p.m. to observe Shiva.
Additionally, Shiva will be held on Friday, November 22nd, starting at 11:00 am.
Tributes to Jacob and the influence he had on their lives were left by friends and family.
"I am so sorry for your loss," read one tribute. Jacob was a genuine source of warmth and compassion for Duke's Jewish community. We will really miss him.
Another tribute said: "Jacob was a wonderful example of how to treat people, and he made the world a better place."
Jacob had a remarkable ability to make you feel acknowledged and appreciated even when you didn't speak a word.
