ollowing a series of
intelligence-driven operations aimed at violent attacks on gold dealers, the
Ghana Police Service has detained five suspected gang members. A syndicate that
operated throughout the Ashanti and Western regions was the target of the arrests,
which took place between August and September 4, 2026.
Three AK-47 guns, 357
rounds of ammunition, and two gang vehicles were found by police during the
raid. During the raids, Seidu Salifu, a 40-year-old suspect, passed away. The
group has been connected to several robberies that target gold dealers, mining
villages, and businesses in places including Manso, Diaso, and Wassa Akropong.
Four suspects were also
captured by Western Regional police on August 21 in a different operation
related to the murder and robbery of gold buyer Seth Kobina. During that
arrest, officers found two locally made handguns, cartridges, and cutlasses.
Specialized police teams
have been stationed around the impacted mining towns to increase security and
safeguard locals in an effort to reassure the public. As investigations
continue, authorities stress that these continuous enforcement actions will guarantee
a secure environment for gold dealers, traders, and community members.
