10-Year-Old Pupil Drowns While Swimming with Friends

A 10-year-old student drowned at Tetekope Beach, causing a devastating loss for the Tetekope community in the Keta Municipality. Ericsson Lumor, a Class Two student at Norlivime Bishop Herman Basic School, passed away unexpectedly on September 3 while swimming with classmates.

Member of the Unit Committee Unaware of the powerful ocean tides, a group of six kids went swimming during their spare time, according to Michael Abotsi Fiator. Lumor was abruptly overwhelmed by strong waves and dragged away from his playmates, who promptly sounded an alarm. Fishermen from the area raced into the sea to save him, but even after they recovered his body and hurried him to the Keta Municipal Hospital, he was declared dead when they arrived.

Neighbors have described Lumor as a courteous and promising youngster, and his death has left the entire community in shock and grief. Local authorities and citizens are urging parents, guardians, and educators to closely monitor youngsters and caution them against swimming in open waters without adult supervision in the wake of the tragic death.
