Gabriel Perez, a White
House teleprompter operator, is presently being investigated for allegedly
utilizing insider information to wager on President Donald Trump's speeches and
earn close to $100,000. According to reports, Perez, who has been in the White
House since 2016, bet on certain phrases the President would say at significant
occasions like the State of the Union. These wagers were made on Kalshi, a
website for prediction markets that lets users gamble on actual events.
In March, unexpected
betting patterns on "mention markets," where users forecast whether a
speaker would use particular terms, led Kalshi's experts to spot suspicious
activity. The business froze more than $90,000 before the money could be taken
out after connecting the account information to a federal employee.
Since then, the Commodity
Futures Trading Commission has received evidence from the platform. President
Trump is aware of the matter, according to White House press secretary Karoline
Leavitt, and Perez has been put on unpaid leave and will no longer be employed
by the White House. Perez is allegedly assisting authorities, even though
federal prosecutors in Manhattan declined to file a criminal complaint.
