TikToker Sentenced to One Year Over False Presidential Claims

The Accra Circuit Court sentenced TikTok inventor Camilla Alhassan to one year in prison. This decision comes after she entered a guilty plea to charges of publishing false information and engaging in offensive behavior.

Her accusations stemmed from recordings that went viral in which she falsely stated that President John Dramani Mahama buried 32 cows as part of rites to win the 2024 presidential election.

The court had first postponed sentencing in order to allow for a required pregnancy test. The judge went on with the conviction and sentencing after that process was finished. The court proceedings pertaining to the offensive and false accusations she disseminated online have come to an end with this case.

It acts as a sobering reminder of the dire repercussions that might result from spreading misleading information on social media. Martha Seyram Jackson wrote this report for Metro Digital.
