Eleven individuals
have been detained by the Eastern Regional Police Command for allegedly
pretending to be National Security agents in order to intimidate cannabis
growers in the Yilo Krobo Municipality.
The suspects rode
motorcycles through farmland villages including Aboa, Osoya, and Opesika while
wearing clothes that looked official. By demanding money and offering them
security from police raids and law enforcement operations, they specifically
targeted local farmers.
For several months,
the organization was monitored by law enforcement. Following the men's
collection of GH¢3,000 from Aboa farmers, police conducted an early morning
raid based on a tip that the suspects were active once more.
Officers seized a
pistol, a pump-action gun, and a silver Toyota Voxy that the fictitious agents
were using throughout the operation. In order to support continuing
investigations, all eleven suspects are presently being held at the Eastern
Regional Police Command headquarters in Koforidua.
