Ghanaians Reach Record GH¢40 billion in Mobile Money Wallets

More money than ever before is being kept in digital wallets by Ghanaians. Mobile money float balances hit a record GH¢40 billion in June 2026, according to data from the Bank of Ghana. Compared to the GH¢28.9 billion recorded in June 2025, this is a staggering 38% increase.

For families and small enterprises, mobile wallets are evolving from straightforward transfer tools into dependable value stores. Active accounts increased to 26.4 million, while registered accounts reached 84.6 million. Platforms handled 954 million transactions totaling an astounding GH¢492.9 billion in June alone.

A significant milestone was also reached by the country's financial network when the number of registered agents for the first time exceeded one million. Additionally, 33 million cross-network transactions worth GH¢6.2 billion were conducted by users, demonstrating the increasing convenience of digital payments. These striking figures demonstrate how mobile money is propelling Ghana's swift shift to a cashless economy.
