One person has died, and three people have been injured when a cargo jet crashes in Lithuania, according to sources.
According to Ramūnas Matonis, the head of communications for the Lithuanian police, the plane crashed at 5:30 a.m. local time, according to the Associated Press.
A Spanish crew member was killed when the plane "skidded into a house," the news agency reported. According to the outlet, three other crew members from Spain, Germany, and Lithuania were hurt in the event.
In a meeting after the disaster, Lithuania's prime minister, Ingrida Å imonytÄ—, stated that no one had been hurt in the residential area where the plane struck.
Twelve individuals were evacuated from a two-story house, according to the local newspaper, Liuvos Rytas.
In a translated statement posted on the website of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, the prime minister stated, "The most important thing is that despite the fact that the incident happened in a residential area, victims of people living there were avoided."
According to the AP, which cited Arūnas Paulauskas, General Commissioner of the Lithuanian Police, firefighters were able to release two pilots. According to the publication, one of the two individuals released from the cockpit "was more seriously injured."
Renatas Požėla, the head of the Fire and Rescue Department, told the AP that "we managed to evacuate people despite the house being slightly damaged and the residential infrastructure surrounding the house being on fire."
