Brake Failure Triggers Multi-Vehicle Crash on Amasaman

A defective MAN diesel truck transporting sugar from Accra to Kumasi failed its brakes, causing a serious accident on the Amasaman–Nsawam road. Abdul Malik, the driver's friend, claims that the driver tried to safely park the malfunctioning truck but was unable to stop. In the end, the fleeing car crashed into a Rhino truck and multiple private vehicles, causing mayhem on the busy route.

This incident brings to light a dangerous tendency that is becoming more prevalent along the Pokuase–Amasaman stretch: the frequent abandonment of broken-down cars by the side of the road. Due to the lack of appropriate warning signs on many of these stranded trucks, incoming traffic faces blind hazards, particularly at night or at high speeds.

Residents are now pleading with the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to take swift action. They call on authorities to severely enforce routine car maintenance and remove unroadworthy automobiles from important roadways. People in the community stress that in order to stop accidents in the future and save lives, prompt action and more stringent enforcement of traffic laws are essential.
