62 Ghanaians Dead in Russia-Ukraine Conflict - Ablakwa

According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister, 62 Ghanaians have died in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Fifteen more people who went to Russia are still unaccounted for.

After high-level bilateral discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Mr. Ablakwa revealed the alarming numbers during a news briefing in Moscow. He clarified that many young Ghanaians are enticed overseas by the prospect of high-paying professions, only to be unlawfully enlisted in military activities once they get there.

The Minister emphasized the urgent need to put an end to these dishonest recruitment methods while speaking directly with Russian authorities about the matter. He underlined that no more young Ghanaians should be killed in the continuing conflict since it is not Ghana's fight.

In response, the Russian government promised to work closely with Ghana to stop its citizens from being enlisted illegally. By applying intense diplomatic pressure on Russian authorities, the Ghanaian government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding its youth.

Ghana intends to spearhead ongoing lobbying initiatives going ahead to guaranty that appropriate protections are implemented, preventing additional abuse of vulnerable job seekers traveling abroad.
