Police Seize Illegal Gadgets from Hundreds of Vehicles

Drivers that use unapproved sirens and strobe lights are the target of a severe crackdown by the Ghana Police Service. The two days of this operation were July 17 and July 18. Officers targeted populated locations such as Tarkwa and Sekondi-Takoradi. Regional MTTD teams and the National Police Headquarters worked together to conduct the unique drill.

Authorities stopped 789 cars in all during the operation. Officers found that 732 automobiles had unlawful strobe lights and lamps, while 57 cars had illegal sirens. All of the illicit accessories were quickly taken out and seized by the police. In addition, formal warning letters and instruction on appropriate traffic laws were given to the offending drivers.

Law enforcement used media appearances and radio conversations in addition to road checks to inform the public about safety regulations. Similar operations would be implemented nationwide, according to the Ghana Police Service. These actions are intended to protect all users of the road and enforce strict adherence to traffic laws.
