Following a shooting at Shelby Farms Park in Memphis, Ellie Claire Young, a medical student at the University of Tennessee Health Science Centre's College of Medicine, passed away.
Young, 22, of Henning, Tennessee, was slain in the gunshot that broke out next to the park's visitor centre as the American Cancer Society was holding a breast cancer walk there called "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer."
An automobile pulled up at 12:15 p.m., chasing a woman, according to witnesses and the Shelby County Sheriff's Office (SCSO). That's when the shooting happened. Young was shot twice by the assailant, who killed her with a headshot. According to reports, he was her spouse.
"This young woman continued to run, followed by another young woman. Witness Monica Bell told FOX13 that she was shot twice as a white sedan drew up. According to another witness, "everything was still going on down there normally, still carrying on, people still walking." It sounded like the way an automobile backfires.
That's how it sounded, but when we were done, they told us that a man had shot his wife in the head. Henning native Ellie Young went to Halls High School. She completed her coursework at the University of Tennessee at Martin before enrolling in the University of Tennessee Health Science Centre's College of Medicine in August to pursue a medical degree.
At the start of the program, she shared photos of herself on social media.
