The Harvard Westlake Middle School in Los Angeles, California, reported on Sunday the passing of Benjamin "Ben" Ellis, a student. Eliis committed suicide,  and he school said in a letter to the parents. He passed away at home.

The message said, "With deep sorrow, we write to share the devastating news that 9th grader Benjamin Ellis passed away at his home this morning."A wide range of teachers and friends adored Ben, who was with us since the seventh grade, and will always remember him for his joyful spirit and inherent goodness," the statement reads.

The message went on to say that Ben passed away by suicide, adding to the school's previous experiences with similar traumatic losses. "We feel compelled to inform you that Ben took his own life, contributing to the profound sorrow our community has felt since suffering other severe bereavements two years prior," the letter went on.

Harvard-Westlake also stated that, on the recommendation of specialists in suicide prevention, there will not be an assembly at the school to break the news to the pupils. Instead, the school asked parents to have a conversation with their children about the event at home so that they could "process their reactions and emotions at home."

A heartbroken father published the letter and described Ben Ellis as a little boy who loved horses. "He was witty, intelligent, and incredibly self-assured," Cindy Durham lamented on Facebook. "He was my superhero and little buddy." Currently, it's unknown what motivated Ellis to end his life. I hope he finds peace.
