In preparation for the 2025 Millennium Marathon Sports
Limited (MMSL) on Saturday, September 6, the Ghana Police Service has ordered
temporary road closures and traffic detours in Accra.
In Osu and Cantonments, the closure will impact
designated routes.
The police said in a statement that the drill will
impact a number of important roads, including:
- Atta
Mills High Street towards Osu
- Liberation
Road from the 37 Intersections to the Central Business District (CBD)
- Independence
Avenue at the National Theatre traffic light
- La
Beach Road
- Oxford
Street
- Cantonments
Road
- Jawaharlal
Nehru Road
Alternative routes have been offered to facilitate
mobility.
It is recommended that drivers heading from Liberation
Road take Kaokudi via the Kanda Highway and merge onto Barnes Road in the
direction of the central business district, or take a detour via Giffard Road
to Osu.
To connect Osu and La, drivers on the Atta Mills
Highway are advised to take Liberia Road and Barnes Road via the 37
Intersections.
People on Giffard Street can connect to the central
business district by using the 37 Intersections through Kaokudi to Dr. Hilla
Limann High Street.
In order to prevent delays, the police have warned
that parking will not be permitted on any of the impacted routes and asked the
public to plan their travels in advance.
Along the approved routes, traffic cops will be
stationed to assist drivers and offer support when necessary.
