Following the tragic military helicopter crash that killed
eight people, including two cabinet ministers, on Wednesday, August 6, in the
Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, Ghana's Minister for Defence,
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and
Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, were among the eight people killed,
along with senior military personnel and other high-ranking government
officials. President William Ruto of Kenya has expressed his deepest sympathies
to the Ghanaian government and people.
President Ruto said that Kenya is in solidarity with Ghana
during this period of national sorrow in a statement posted on his official
Facebook page on Thursday.
He wrote, "After a tragic helicopter crash that killed
eight people, including two ministers, we offer our condolences to H.E.
President John Mahama, the government, the people of Ghana, and the bereaved
families."
"We offer our thoughts and prayers during this time of
sorrow and stand in solidarity with Ghana in grieving this significant loss.
May you rest in peace.
Following the tragedy, President Ruto joins an increasing
number of African and worldwide leaders who have shown their sorrow and
support.
Flags are being flown at half-mast while enquiries into the
crash's cause continue in Ghana, which is also observing a time of national
grief.
