Prevent Impending Power Outage | Act Now! – IES urges government

As three significant power facilities are about to shut down due to outstanding debts, Nana Amoasi VII, Executive Director of the Institute for Energy Security (IES), has asked the government to act quickly to avoid an impending power outage.

The issue stems from the Electricity Company of Ghana's (ECG) $259 million debt, which the government has not paid up.

In an interview with Citi Business News on Tuesday, November 19, Dr. Elikplim Apetorgbor, the CEO of the Independent Power Producers (IPP), revealed this.

Following President Akufo-Addo's inauguration of the Bridge Power Project, which aims to address energy shortages in Ghana's power sector, Dr. Apetorgbor made the discovery. "I can attest that things are not going well.

I can assure you that three important power plants will be disconnected from the grid by Monday if nothing is done by Friday. It's not enjoyable; it's a severe issue. These assurances have been given to us multiple times; therefore, they cannot influence us.

We're determined," Dr. Apetorgbor said. Nana Amoasi VII stated that the government must treat the issue seriously and take prompt action in an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Wednesday.

They plan to take such a measure, the bird confided to us at the IES. They are releasing their displeasure because they fear that if they don't take action right away, they won't have the power or the gall to persuade the next administration to pay them.

Based on where Asogli led us, I think they will follow through on their promises. It never occurred to us that an IPP might shut down twice. As of October 8th, Asogli did.

He emphasised, "We have a strong belief that they will fulfil their commitments and that the government should take them seriously and take immediate action to prevent any [power shutdown]."
