Jordan Ayew |
Deep into stoppage time at St Mary's, Jordan Ayew came off the bench to lead Leicester City to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Southampton.
With their victory over Bournemouth, Leicester now has back-to-back victories, and Steve Cooper's team is still gaining ground in the Premier League. Leicester was behind 2-0 at halftime and in a challenging situation.
But they made a strong recovery in the second half, tying the score with goals from Jamie Vardy and Facundo Buonanotte before Ayew's heroics in the 98th minute sealed the three points. Ayew told the BBC that although his team will win, "it's not going to be every weekend like this; it's going to be tough."
"However, we have a strong team, and we have faith in our manager and ourselves. For the benefit of the club, we will give it our all. After Ryan Fraser of Southampton was sent off, Leicester had a man advantage in the last few minutes, thanks to Ayew's goal.
Ayew added, "It was just natural instinct," when he thought back on his strike. Fortunately, the ball arrived. Scoring wasn't simple, but I succeeded. We're all content, and perhaps more is ahead."
Leicester's victory demonstrated the depth of talent in Cooper's team even more, and Ayew emphasised that every player will contribute to the team's success this season.
"We are a group of 25 or 26 players, and everyone will play a part this season. It’s not only 11 players, and we all need to stay positive and work hard for the team," he added.
